Crews Battle Weekend Apartment Fire in Nashua

There were no injuries in a weekend apartment fire in north Iowa.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of flames coming out of the roof of the residential building at 417 Wentling Street shortly after 5:30 pm Saturday (03.16) evening. The Nashua Fire Department was then notified to respond to extinguish the fire. They were on the scene for about two hours.

Nashua Fire Chief Tom Johnson says the cause of the blaze has not been determined, but appears to have started in the attic area. He says the roof of the apartment was completely destroyed by the fire, making the structure uninhabitable at this time.

No injuries were reported and all residents and animals were able to evacuate the building, with at least a half-dozen residents displaced by the fire.

The Ionia Fire Department, Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, Chickasaw County EMS, and Nashua Area EMS also responded to the fire.

According to a Facebook post, The Badger’s Den in Nashua is hosting an open house Monday (03.18) from 3 to 5 pm for the families affected by the fire, who are welcome to come and get what they need free of charge. Donations of money and household items will also be accepted.
