St. Pat’s Lottery Luck in North Iowa: $500,000-Winning Ticket Sold in Mason City

Someone has won a half-million dollars with an Iowa Lottery Powerball ticket sold in north Iowa.

The Iowa Lottery says the winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Star at 1502 South Federal Avenue Saturday (03.16) in Mason City. Whoever won scored the $500,000 with the new Double Play® option, which made its Iowa debut in November in the Powerball game.

For an extra $1 per play, players can add the Double Play option to their Powerball tickets. The numbers on that ticket are then eligible to win twice – once in the regular Powerball drawing, and once in a separate Double Play drawing that same night. It’s also possible for a player to win prizes with both drawings on the same night.

In the case of the Mason City ticket, someone matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball in Saturday’s Double Play drawing to win a $500,000 prize, the only ticket in the country to win $500,000.

Kwik Star will receive a $500 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $500,000-winning ticket. We will bring you more information on the winner when it becomes available.
