Chickasaw, Floyd County Supervisors Hold Public Hearings Monday (04.15) for 24-25 Fiscal Year Budgets

The Boards of Supervisors in Chickasaw and Floyd counties will hold public hearings Monday (04.15) morning on their respective county’s 2024-25 fiscal year budget.

Chickasaw County Supervisors are slated to start their public hearing at 9:10 am, less than two weeks after a public hearing on the County’s proposed property tax levy rate drew an audience of about 50 people. Many challenged Supervisors on the plan, at that time, which would raise the  countywide tax asking by almost 19% over the current 23-24 fiscal year, which ends June 30th.

Supervisors have since worked to massage the budget to decrease that property tax levy rate hike to under 16%.

Conversely, no one from the public spoke when Floyd County Supervisors held their public hearing March 25th on the proposed property tax levy rate for 24-25. As presented at that time, the property tax levy rate in the County is expected to go up from just under $6.30 per $1,000 of taxable valuation currently to $6.34 starting July 1st.

That is expected to become official when Floyd County Supervisors hold their 24-25 fiscal year budget hearing at 9:15 am Monday.
