New Hampton v. Sumner-Fredericksburg: Who Will Play for Title Friday?
Chickasaw County and Northeast Iowa is well-represented in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament in Carroll Thursday (07.25) night. Unfortunately, only one will advance to play for a state title on Friday (07.26).
It’s 24-4 Sumner-Fredericksburg coached by Tom Nuss taking on 28-6 New Hampton, coached by Cory McDonald.
Nuss foreshadowed a possible meeting of the two teams at state.
In their run to the semis, the Chickasaws have outscored their four playoff opponents 38 to 8. In their four postseason wins, the Cougars have outscored the competition 21 to 11.
Coverage of Thursday night’s between second-seeded New Hampton and third-seeded Sumner-Fredericksburg begins at 6:45 pm with first pitch at 7 pm on 95.1 The Bull.
The winner moves into the state championship game Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm against the winner of Thursday’s first semifinal matchup between top-seeded Underwood and fourth-seeded Chariton starting at 4:30 pm.
