Lundquist Lawsuit Against Charles City School Board Headed for Trial

The lawsuit filed by former Superintendent Anne Lundquist against all five members of the Charles City School Board appears headed for trial.
In April, Lundquist was placed on administrative leave while, according to School Board President David Schrodt, the district investigated allegations that raised “questions about Dr. Lundquist’s fitness for duty and ability to serve as an employee of the Charles City Community School District.”
Lundquist has filed a lawsuit against Schrodt and the other four current Board members: Bruce Koebrick, Dara Jaeger, Kathryn Fox and Josh Mack.
In her petition, Lundquist notes that on April 18th, she made copies of “private evaluation comments” regarding some school employees when some of her notes were left on the copier. Those notes were found by someone and presented to Schrodt, who then proceeded to contact other Board members, which Lundquist claims was in violation of open meetings laws. She was suspended the next day.
Lundquist is pursuing “damages in a fair and reasonable sum and for punitive damages” and has requested a jury trial for intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation, invasion of privacy, and breach of contract. She requested a jury trial.
On July 1st, the defendants were approved for an “unresisted” motion to extend the time to move or plead in response to Lundquist’s petition up to and including August 2nd.
On Friday (July 19), a trial scheduling conference was set for August 7th.
Lundquist, who never returned to her post, is being represented by the law firm of Cornwall, Avery, Bjornstad, and Scott of Spencer. Schrodt, Jaeger, Koebrick, Mack and Fox are being represented by Nyemaster Goode, P.C. of Des Moines.
