Northeast Iowa Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash Near Oelwein

One man is dead following a two-vehicle weekend collision south of Oelwein.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the crash at about 12:30 pm Saturday (07.27) afternoon at the intersection of 130th Street and Indiana Avenue. A Buick LeSabre driven by 80-year-old Michael Puff of Oelwein was traveling east and a Chevy Equinox driven by 19-year-old Connor Jorgensen, also of Oelwein, was heading north when they collided.
Deputies say the drivers’ visibility may have been obstructed by standing corn.
Puff, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be removed from his car by mechanical means. He was then taken to MercyOne hospital in Oelwein, where he later died.
Jorgensen’s vehicle went into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest upside down, but he suffered only minor injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol, Hazleton Fire Department, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Rescue 10, and Oelwein MercyOne Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
