North Iowa Man to Serve Up to 30 Years for Indecent Contact with a Minor 

A North Iowa man could serve up to three decades in prison for having indecent contact with a minor.

38-year-old Richard Bush of Plainfield was initially arrested in May 2023 on charges of continuous sex abuse of a child, second-degree sexual abuse, and lascivious acts with a child, all felonies; plus assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and dissemination/exhibition of obscene material to a minor. 

According to court documents, the victim told authorities in August of 2022, she was sexually assaulted multiple times by Bush when she was under 14-years-old. 

Two additional counts of lascivious acts with a child were added against Bush in May of this year and, on June 3rd, he pleaded guilty to the three counts of lascivious acts with a child, all Class C felonies. The other charges were dismissed. 

On Monday (0.12), Bush was sentenced in Bremer County District Court to serve up to 10 years on each count, to be served consecutively, with credit for time served. After his prison time, Bush must sign up with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. He’s also subject to special sentencing in which he’ll be under supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for life, with eligibility for parole as provided in Iowa Code chapter 906.
