Floyd County Girls Among 16 Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar Contest Winners at Iowa State Fair

A pair of Floyd County girls are among just 16 Iowa students whose artwork has been selected for the 2024-2025 Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig recognized the students Tuesday (08.13) during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair. The Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship received over 200 submissions from students 18 or younger across the state, with Sydney Kehret of Charles City and Paisley Ott of Marble Rock among the 16 winners.

The calendar contest is a family affair for Sydney Kehret, with her younger sister, Madelynn, having her drawing selected at last year’s Iowa State Fair to be included in the ‘23-24 Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar.  Sydney is 14 years old and will be in 9th grade this year. Madelynn is 12 years old and will be in 7th grade this year. Paisley is 11-years-old and will be a sixth grader this year at Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock. 

Naig said, “Choose Iowa is all about showcasing the food and ag products that are grown, raised or made in our state. It’s exciting to see our students creatively portray their connections to Iowa agriculture each year through this contest.”

The free Choose Iowa 2024-2025 calendar will be available to fairgoers at the Iowa Department of Ag booth in the Agriculture Building and Varied Industries Building on the state fairgrounds, while they last.

*Students who are 18 years old or younger are invited to submit a drawing for next year’s Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar (Sept. 2025 – Aug. 2026). 

Students who are 18 years or younger are invited to submit a drawing for the September 2025 – August 2026 Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar. Pictures should be drawn in a horizontal orientation using only black lines on plain white, 8 ½ by 11-inch paper. The pictures should not be colored in. Artwork may be submitted electronically to [email protected] or mailed to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Attention: Coloring Calendar, 502 E. 9th St., Des Moines, IA 50319. Each submission should include the artist’s name, age, school, hometown and contact information.
