Charles City Cleans Up from Thursday (08.29) Storms

Severe thunderstorms left several inches of rain and scores of downed trees and tree limbs across North Iowa Thursday (08.29)

Torrential rain and strong winds hit Charles City about 7 pm Thursday night, bringing down numerous trees and tree limbs across the city, some making streets impassable.

That’s City Administrator Steve Diers, who also cautions that some downed trees and limbs should be addressed by professionals.

Diers says residents can push limbs and tree debris onto City right-of-ways for pickup by the City on Tuesday.

Diers adds that’s not the only debris being dealt with.

Rainfall totals for the 24-hour period ending at 7:30 am Friday (08.30) morning include just over two inches in Charles City, almost two inches at Ionia, about one-and-a-half inches in New Hampton, Osage and St. Ansgar, plus one-and-three quarters inches at Fredericksburg, McGregor and Harpers Ferry.

Over three inches of rain fell at Stacyville in Mitchell County.
