High-Visibility Traffic Enforcement Campaign Through Labor Day

Several North Iowa law agencies are participating in a high-visibility selective traffic enforcement project (sTEP) through Labor Day (09.02).

Chickasaw County Sheriff Ryan Shawver says they’ll look to crack down on impaired driving.

Shawver says his department’s Labor Day Weekend also means presence at the Big 4 Fair in Nashua.

The Charles City, West Union, New Hampton police departments, as well as the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office are partnering with the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to remove impaired drivers and motorcycle riders from the road.

According to the GTSB, there were 54 traffic fatalities in Iowa during the final weeks of summer last year, with 44% involving driver impairment.
