One dead after fatal accident on Avenue of the Saints between Mason City & Nora Springs

MASON CITY — One person is dead after a fatal accident on the Avenue of the Saints near the Cerro Gordo-Floyd county line.

The Iowa State Patrol says they were called to the 195 mile marker of US Highway 18 at about 12:35 this morning, where an eastbound vehicle had left the roadway and entered the median for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck a bridge pillar and became fully engulfed in flames.

The State Patrol says the vehicle was occupied by one person who was found dead inside the vehicle. They were not able to immediately identify the person.
