Charles City School Board Approves Athletic Services Contract

The Charles City School Board heard from Comet coaches Monday (09.09) night about the importance of the school district’s contract with Synergy Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine of Charles City.
Girls wrestling coach Rob Pittman told the Board having the service is critical to the safety of the student-athletes.
Head football coach Brian Bjorklund described the time he discovered they no athletic trainer when he first took over the program four years ago.
Bjorklund said he got another surprise at last Friday’s (09.06) game at South Tama.
The School Board approved the contract with Synergy for sports medicine services for the 2024-25 school year for $25,000. Still, the new agreement only covers Synergy’s presence at home games only for football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track.
In the three previous years, the school district’s contracts with Synergy averaged about $52,000 a year for more comprehensive services. However, Activities Director Dana Sullivan said because Synergy is having trouble finding enough trained staff to cover all the services they previously supplied, the services for this school year and, subsequently, the pricing, had to be trimmed by over half.
