Extra Week Before Iowa 18 Bridge Near Ionia Turnoff Reopens
A northeast Iowa bridge replacement project may take a week longer before the new bridge is opened to traffic.
Pete Hjelmstad, with the Mason City District office of the Iowa DOT, says the Iowa Highway 18 bridge, being built near the Ionia turnoff in Chickasaw County, is now targeted for completion the week of October 14th. Work began in April to replace the old bridge over the Winters Lake Overflow.
That same week in April, a bridge replacement project began at the Iowa Highway 14 bridge over Flood Creek, between Floyd County roads B-45 and B-60 near Roseville. That bridge reopened to traffic on September 20th, about a month ahead of the expected finish date.
In other bridge-related road construction projects, Hjelmstad says crews are milling out asphalt at the west end of each eastbound bridge and putting in new asphalt at the Business U.S. 218 bridge west of Charles City and the railroad bridge just south of there as well as the Iowa 14 bridge. Work should be done by the end of the week.
