Charles City Man Apprehended After Fleeing in Car, On Foot

A Charles City man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly led law enforcement on a pursuit by vehicle and then on foot.
Charles City Police say they attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle, allegedly driven by Tanner Hulbert, who turned 23 on Friday (10.11), near the intersection of Milwaukee and Spriggs streets just after 11:30 am Sunday morning, knowing his license had been revoked. However, Hulbert failed to pull over and took off at a high rate of speed.
The chase continued out of town on North Grand Avenue, which becomes Shadow Avenue in rural Floyd County, before Hulbert turned west onto 155th Street. Hulbert would turn down a dead end road about two miles east of Floyd before then attempting to flee on foot.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) K9 Unit assisted in apprehending Hulbert, who faces charges of eluding at speeds 25 mph over the posted limit, a Class D felony, and driving while license denied or revoked, a serious misdemeanor. He was also cited for reckless driving and multiple other traffic violations.
Court records show Hulbert was arrested in March by FCSO following a traffic stop in Floyd after he allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana. He faces a trial on an OWI charge November 21st in Floyd County District Court.
In April 2022, Hulbert was convicted on two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon violating an individual’s rights with two other counts dismissed in a plea deal. In that case, Hulbert was accused of threatening four individuals by displaying what turned out to be a BB gun causing fear and spouting racial slurs at the victims.
