Details Released on Dead Male Found Near Postville

Authorities continue to seek the public’s help in identifying a man whose dead body was discovered last week in Northeast Iowa.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) located the deceased male last Tuesday (10.22) afternoon in a wooded area along the right of way of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, just west of Postville.  An initial investigation determined the man had been dead for some time, possibly prior to August 28, 2024.

An update from ACSO describes the male with black hair, beard and missing a front tooth; wearing a black, long-sleeved t-shirt, jeans and black athletic shoes. Also recovered was a black backpack with a “Milwaukee Valve” logo, large red aluminum bottle and green “boonie” style hat. Also found at the scene was a black, Raleigh, 21-speed, hybrid-style bicycle.

ACSO says the man may have been a transient. No foul play is suspected.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 563-568-4521.

The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and to determine cause of death.
