Playground and Pool in Charles City in Different Stages of Progress

While the “reset button” has been pushed on construction of the all-inclusive playground in Charles City, repairs continue to move forward at the Lions Field municipal swimming pool.
City Administrator Steve Diers says playground completion is still up in the air after issues below ground. In late October, it was discovered that contractor, Play Pro Recreation, dug the hole too deep.
Diers says the City hopes the playground can be reinstalled this year.
Meanwhile, fixes and repairs to the Lions Field Pool, built in 1993, move along swimmingly.
Diers says the some $800,000 in repairs and upgrades, which also includes the addition of a rock climbing wall, should mean another 20-to-25 years of pool use.
He adds that the contractor doing the pipes, pumps and other internal work continues here in November, while the contractor handling the work on the pool or “vessel” has done as much as they can with the weather changing.
Update: the Charles City City Council Monday (11.18) night approved about $12,000 in change orders for the pool to cover various adjustments in the project:
