Snow, Combined with High Winds Can Create Challenging Driving Conditions

Snow overnight Tuesday (12.10) into Wednesday (12.11), combined with gusty northwest winds around 35 mph, could cause some motorists driving challenges.
Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City District Office of the Iowa DOT reminds motorists to check road conditions in advance of travel at www.511ia.org or on the 511ia app.
While the DOT recently added a feature for conditions on secondary roads, Hjelmstad cautions that the timeliness of the information is up to county road departments.
As for general winter driving reminders, Hjelmstad encourages motorists to give snow plows extra room to operate and leave extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you for adequate time to stop in inclement weather.
