CCPD Not Associated with “Declaration of Support,” Chance at $1 Million Prize
Charles City Police are distancing themselves from an alleged “contest” offering a $1 million prize for your “declaration of support” of the department.
CCPD says a citizen provided them a letter December 5th that makes it appear that an organization, claiming to be “Citizens Behind the Badge,” is working with the department. In addition to the letter, which seeks signatures of individuals declaring their support “for the Brave Police of Charles City, IA,” the group is offering a “Golden Years Winner Takes All Jackpot” prize of $1 million by pledging to donate $5, $10, $15 or “best gift $. ”
There are disclaimers indicating “No donation necessary to win” and “A donation does not increase your chances of winning.”
CCPD says the department is not involved with the alleged promotion and they have never seen any of the “declarations” to date. They also do not receive any of the funds.
CCPD adds, “Not saying the organization is not a good charity, but they are not affiliated with the CCPD.”
Several law enforcement agencies, including in Arkansas and Kentucky, are warning citizens that the promotion is a scam.
