Land Values Decline Across Region, State
Farmland values declined in Floyd and Chickasaw counties from 2023 to 2024, though the drops were below the state average.
The average dollar per acre values for Iowa farmland are based on U.S. Census of Agriculture estimates and the November 1, 2024, Iowa Land Survey by the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, Iowa State University, and ISU Extension and Outreach.
In 2023, farmland in Floyd County was just short of $12,000 per acre. In 2024, that value dropped by about $200 per acre, a dip of 1.74%.
In 2023, farmland in Chickasaw County was just over $12,000 per acre, but dropped by about $300 an acre in 2024, down 2.49%.
The statewide average decline from 2023 to 2024 was 3.1%.
Other area counties with farmland values declines below the state average include Howard County at 1.7%, Worth County at 2.4%, Franklin County at 2.76%, and Mitchell County at 2.8%.
Farmland value declines above the state average include Butler County at 4.47%, Cerro Gordo County at 5.34%, and Bremer County at 6.1%, almost double the state average.
