Visitation Sunday, Funeral Service Monday for Chickasaw County Firefighter, EMT
The body of a longtime Chickasaw County firefighter and EMT was returned to New Hampton Tuesday (03.25).
According to the obituary by Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton, 41-year-old Brock Schmidt “died unexpectedly on Saturday (03.22) while on call serving his community at Chickasaw County EMS in New Hampton.”
Chickasaw County EMS Director Joel Knutson says early indications were Schmidt died from a heart attack in his sleep after he turned in for the night following a call that returned him to the ambulance station about 1:30 am Saturday.
Knutson says Schmidt played an integral part in launching the County-run ambulance service.
Schmidt was honored with a motorcade procession Tuesday (03.25) afternoon to bring his body back to Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Schmidt are scheduled for 10:30 am Monday (03.31) at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Visitation is 2 to 5 pm Sunday (03.30) at the funeral home with memory sharing starting at 5 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Monday morning.
Schmidt was a firefighter and EMT for 17 years for various departments throughout Chickasaw County.
