New Hampton School Board Hosts First FY25-26 Budget Hearing Monday (03.31) Night

A week later than originally planned, the New Hampton School Board will host its first public hearing on the proposed school district budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year Monday (03.31) night.
Superintendent Jay Jurrens told the Board during their March 17th meeting that tax rates will go up for property owners, but not by as much as published.
Jurrens said two of the main reasons for the increased tax rates are for cash reserves to cover a special education deficit of about $850,000 and a 15% increase in insurance premiums.
Jurrens said he also expects schools will only see an increase of 2-to-2.25% in funding through Supplemental State Aid (SSA), though the legislature has yet to pass an education bill setting the amount. How much total SSA each school district receives is based on enrollment and, fortunately, for New Hampton, enrollment continues to climb.
Jurrens also notes that, with increased enrollment, there’s still the challenge of meeting housing needs for those extra families.
The public hearing was originally targeted for March 24th, but due to publication requirements had to be delayed to Monday night and begins at 6:30 pm in the FCS Room of the High School.
