Chickasaw County Supervisors Agree on Lower Tax Rates in Advance of Budget Public Hearing

Chickasaw County Supervisors have agreed on lower tax rates for two County accounts in advance of the public hearing on the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, which begins July 1st.

During their regular Board meeting Monday (03.31), Supervisors came to a consensus to reduce the property tax rate for the General Supplemental (GS) budget from $1.92 per $1,000 of taxable valuation to $1.85. They also plan to lower the Rural Services Basic (RSB) tax rate from $3.52 to $3.50.

That’s Supervisor Jacob Hackman, who adds that varying factors make the lower the tax rates possible, including money expected to be returned to the County by the end of this fiscal year, either because it was unspent or is being “rebated.”

One area Hackman expects to require less tax dollars is the County-run ambulance service, which also means that cities involved in the 28E agreement for that service still won’t be making payments to the County.

Hackman says the revised tax rates will still allow the County to operate within its means.

None of the tax rates will become official until Supervisors approve the FY25-26 budget, with a public hearing set for 9:10 am on April 14th in the boardroom of the Chickasaw County Courthouse.
