Construction Work Aplenty Across North/Northeast Iowa

Spring also means road construction season ramps up across Iowa, with north and northeast Iowa no different.

Among projects impacting motorists in the Mason City/Clear Lake area is work at Exit 193 on I-35, which Pete Hjelmstad, with the Iowa DOT’s Mason City District office, says comes with a “summer hiatus.”

Hjelmstad says construction work is also affecting travel through Osage.

Meanwhile, crews continue building the new Highway 3 bridge in Waverly, even if it’s not so obvious.

Hjelmstad adds that work also continues on Highway 65/South Federal Avenue between 6th Street South and 19th Street Southwest in Mason City, with a multi-year, multi-stage project on Iowa 122 in Mason City scheduled to begin April 14th.

The DOT’s New Hampton construction office says crews this past week (04.02) began to remove and, eventually, replace the Iowa Highway 3 bridge over the Little Wapsipinicon River in Fayette County. They also note a project to extend the box culvert on southbound U.S. Highway 63 at Crane Creek, 1.5 miles south of Iowa 188, near Tripoli, is expected to begin Monday (04.07) and is targeted for completion by mid-October, weather permitting.
