Spring Cleanup in Charles City begins this Saturday (04.19), with Charles City Police looking to target certain problem areas.
Police Chief Hugh Anderson says they’ve been working to get advance warning notices to residents who have excessive “junk” on their property.
While officers are making concerted efforts for code enforcement, Anderson says a recent incident showed they can’t catch everything.
By City code, junk or nuisance violators have 10 days to comply after being issued a warning. Still, Anderson advises patience for neighbors.
Anderson adds that the City would prefer to work with property owners rather than take things to court, but, if the matter results in an order for the City to clean it up, the property owner will be required to cover the costs.
Charles City Spring Cleanup starts this Saturday (04.19) and continues through Saturday, April 26th, with dropoff at the Shaw Avenue Dump open from 7 am to 7 pm weekdays and 9 am to 7 pm Saturdays and Sunday.
