Northeast Iowa Man Charged with Stealing ATM, Truck, Construction Lift

A Northeast Iowa man is facing several charges, after allegedly stealing an ATM, construction lift and truck.
Cedar Falls Police responded to Dupaco Community Credit Union about 5 a.m. Saturday (05.03) for an alarm, signaling the ATM was being tampered with. Officers found damage to the ATM, then, less than 10 minutes later, another alarm was activated at Veridian Credit Union.
Witnesses reported that a Telelift had loaded an ATM into a truck near Menards. A Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputy found the truck on I-380, and attempted to stop the vehicle, before being led on a high-speed chase, which ended on Highway 218 north of Lone Tree Road. The truck was allegedly stolen from Waterloo on Friday (05.02), and the Telelift was stolen from a construction site on Brandilynn Boulevard.
The alleged driver, John Bennet of Waterloo, who just turned 55 on April 29th, has been charged with:
- Two counts of 1st Degree Theft
- Two Counts of 1st Degree Criminal Mischief
- Theft 2nd Degree (Theft of Motor Vehicle)
- Felony Eluding
- Numerous traffic violations
