Charles City Man Arrested Second Time Within a Month for Being Drunk In Floyd County Courthouse

For the second time within a month, a Charles City man was arrested for being drunk inside the Floyd County Courthouse.
According to the criminal complaint, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) was contacted by the probation officer of 45-year-old Erik Gordon that he was in her office, smelling strongly of alcohol, shortly after 11 am Wednesday (05.21) morning. Gordon allegedly admitted to drinking vodka the night prior and his blood alcohol content (BAC) level measured .092%, just above the legal limit of .08% BAC.
FCSO then arrested Gordon for public intoxication, his second such incident within the past 30 days. Court records show Gordon was also arrested for being drunk in the courthouse on April 23rd, when he also admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to entering the building. FCSO says his BAC measured well over the legal limit.
Both public intox arrests come just weeks after Gordon pleaded guilty to OWI in Floyd County District Court on April 2nd. That charge stemmed from his October 19, 2024, arrest by Charles City Police after they found Gordon passed out at the wheel of his vehicle in the middle of Kellogg Avenue. His BAC measured .368%, over four-and-a-half times the legal limit.
Gordon was sentenced to 30 days in the Floyd County Jail with all but two days suspended and placed on probation for one year. However, he now faces probation revocation, with a hearing set for June 20th.
Gordon is being held in the Floyd County Jail on $5,000 cash-only bond.
