Curtis “Curt” Joerger, 58, of Charles City

Curtis “Curt” Joerger, 58, of Charles City, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025.

A Mass for Curt Joerger will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Curtis Lee Joerger, the son of Jerry and Nancy (Kruse) Joerger, was born on December 10, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Charles City High School. He then attended the University of Iowa and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990. A couple months later, Curt then met Kim through a mutual friend. In 1994, they were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They welcomed 2 children, Megan and Justin, in the following years.

Curt worked for Vanguard Appraisals in Cedar Rapids, IA for the last 35 years where he was also part owner. He was very dedicated to his profession and highly respected by his colleagues. Curt was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge.

Curt was an avid sports fan. His love for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings was immeasurable. He and his family shared their love for football tailgating and attended multiple games each year. One of his favorite pastimes was golf. He had his first hole in one in 2009 at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines.

For many years, the Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA) tournament was a big 9 year and younger event in Charles City. Curt volunteered countless hours each summer to help players and families have memorable experiences.

Curt was a very sociable person and enjoyed time with friends. Everyone knew where “his” chair was wherever he went. Curt most importantly always cherished his family. He loved watching his children thrive in sports and the performing arts. He loved to travel with his family and took many trips including to Mexico, Ireland, France, Greece, and Italy. Curt will be remembered for his kindness and thoughtfulness towards others and was able to continue that after his passing through Iowa Donor Network.

Living family members include his loving wife of almost 31 years, Kim (Byers) Joerger ; daughter, Megan Joerger; son, Justin Joerger; parents, Jerry and Nancy Joerger; sister, Stephanie (Torie) Korth; and mother-in-law & stepfather-in-law, Ken and Kathy Golly; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Mildred Kruse; paternal grandparents, Walter and Ellen Joerger; sister-in-law, Kris Byers-Lara; father-in-law, Roger Byers; and special aunt, Sharon Uetz.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
