Farewell Meetings for Charles City, New Hampton Officials

Farewells Monday (06.16) night for a pair of north Iowa officials.
In New Hampton, it was the final school board meeting for retiring Superintendent Jay Jurrens.
The Board then presented Jurrens with gifts that included a walking stick, plus a journal and a map of national parks, which Jurrens says he and his wife have a goal to visit as many as possible.
Monday was his final day on the job after 13 years as New Hampton superintendent, including the last eight years as shared superintendent with Turkey Valley schools.
Erik Smith officially takes over as the new shared superintendent July 1st.
In Charles City, it was the final city council meeting for City Administrator Steve Diers, who is leaving to become the new city administrator for Clear Lake starting July 7th.
Councilman DeLaine Freeseman wished Diers well.
Councilwoman Phoebe Pittman cited a special connection with Diers.
Diers’ last day on the job for the City is this Friday (06.20).
