Floyd County Secondary Roads Seeks Public Input for Bridge Replacement Grant Application

The Floyd County Secondary Roads Department is seeking the public’s input as part of its application for federal grants to fix county bridges.

County Engineer Adam Miller says they are joining the Iowa DOT and over 20 other counties in the state in applying for Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP) grants to support critical infrastructure projects across the country. In 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation will award up to $250 million CHBP grants.

Miller says the Iowa effort is applying to receive funding to help rebuild 34 bridges in poor condition across the state. These bridge replacement projects would improve safety, increase communities’ connection to nearby areas, such as schools, businesses, hospitals, and parks, provide easier access for freight and agricultural-related movement, and allow for economic growth.

Floyd County has two bridges in this grant program which are located between County road B-45 between Rockford and Iowa Highway 14.  If awarded, this grant would provide approximately $1.6 million for replacing these two bridges.

Miller is asking for public assistance by telling officials how you use the current structures, and your thoughts on potential wider, safer bridges that can carry heavier loads.
