North Iowa Man Dead After Crashing Vehicle into Grain Elevator at High Rate of Speed

A north Iowa man is dead after he crashed his car into a grain elevator.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the wreck occurred just after 1 am Sunday (07.20) morning when 35-year-old Ty Borcherding of Hampton was driving a Subaru Forester at a “high rate of speed” when the vehicle collided with the concrete elevator at 205 Railroad Avenue in Dows. The vehicle then caught on fire.

ISP says the Borcherding was the lone occupant of the vehicle and no one else was injured.

The Iowa State Patrol and Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident along with fire departments from Dows, Belmond, and Clarion and Franklin County General Ambulance.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
