School Board Sends $30 Million CCHS Bond Referendum to Vote, Bond Committee Kicks Off Promotional Campaign

Enough signatures have been collected for a petition to put a bond referendum before voters this fall that, if approved, would fund up to $30 million in renovations, upgrades and improvements to Charles City High School.
Wednesday (08.27) night, the Charles City School Board met in special session and officially approved putting the measure on the ballot this November.
About a half hour after that, the Future Forward CC Bond 2025 committee hosted a kickoff meeting in the High School Gymnasium. Member Emily Garden discussed the amount of money currently being spent by the school district just to maintain the high school, built over 65 years ago.
Garden also noted the tax calculator available on the school district website which allows taxpayers to see how much their taxes may change if the bond passes on November 4th by a 60% supermajority YES vote.
About 50 people attended the kickoff rally, which also included tours of the high school.
**Ballot language:
Shall the Board of Directors of the Charles City Community School District in the Counties of Chickasaw and Floyd, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $30,000,000 to provide funds for completing needed upgrades including but not limited to safety, security systems, building code and ADA requirements by removing portions of the existing High School building and reconstructing, building, furnishing and equipping additions, including related remodeling and site improvements; and to remodel, renovate, improve, repair, furnish, and equip other portions of the existing High School?
