Two Finalists Announced for City Administrator Post in Charles City

Two finalists will interview to become the next city administrator for the City of Charles City.

The City received 14 applications in their recruitment efforts to find a successor to former City Administrator Steve Diers, who announced in May he would depart after over 11 years to take the same position with the City of Clear Lake. After Diers finished in June, the City hired former Spencer city administrator Dan Gifford to work for the City on an interim basis.

Gifford, who came out of retirement, said he has no interest in the position full-time.

Last week, the City Council met in a special session to conduct Zoom interviews with a goal of trimming the pool to around eight candidates.

During Monday (09.15) night’s regular Council meeting, Mayor Dean Andrews announced that three candidates emerged as finalists, but one has since dropped out of contention.

That narrowed the field to the final two .

The next step in the hiring process will include taking Trout and Ledford on tours of the City followed by a reception on September 26th and in-person interviews on September 27th.

The City hopes to have the new city administrator start in November.
