New City Officials Expected in Charles City, New Hampton, Nashua

A pair of positions on the New Hampton City Council are lacking for candidates come this November’s election.

Last Thursday (09.18) was the deadline for candidates to file to run for office. New Hampton council seats up for election November 4th include those held by Kalista Porath, Mindy Humpal, and Kerstin Schwickerath. Neither Porath or Humpal filed to run for re-election, while Schwickerath, appointed to the council in February after the resignation of Katie Fisher, has filed to run to keep the post into 2026.

There will be at least one new City Council face in Charles City, since DeLaine Freeseman did not file to run for re-election, with his term to expire December 31st. Filing to run for re-election is Patrick Lumley, with Councilwoman Krista Noah also filing to seek her first official term after being appointed to the Council following the resignation of Keith Starr. Jeff Otto, who was not picked as the appointee, has also filed to run for Council.

Charles City Mayor Dean Andrews has also filed to seek another term and is the only candidate to file by the deadline.

Meanwhile, the City of Nashua is in line for a new mayor after current Mayor Harold Kelleher did not file to run. Kelleher was appointed mayor in October 2023 to serve out the term of then-Mayor Alex Anthofer who resigned, with that term expiring December 31st. Two candidates have filed to run for mayor of Nashua, including Teresa Tobin and Shelly Weiss.
