Near-Record Heat and Strong Winds Create Elevated Fire Risk in Northeast Iowa

The National Weather Service is warning of elevated fire weather conditions across northeast Iowa this afternoon (10/4/25).

Forecasters say a combination of near-record to record high temperatures, strong southerly winds gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour, and dry fuels will make it easier for fires to start and spread.

Residents are urged to use caution with any activities that could spark a fire, including campfires, grilling, smoking, or operating large equipment. Cigarettes should be properly extinguished and disposed of safely.

At this time, no burn bans are in effect in our local listening area, but officials stress the importance of taking precautions under these conditions.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
