Petra Irmgard Simonson, 63, Sheffield

Petra Irmgard Simonson, age 63, passed away peacefully at her home in Sheffield, Iowa, on Wednesday September 24, 2025.

A prayer service and visitation will be held to celebrate Petra’s life and legacy on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with burial following the service at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in Petra’s honor.

Born in Stadtbergen, Bavaria, Germany, on May 25, 1962, to Wilhelm and Irmgard Meteg, Petra was raised in a loving family and developed a strong sense of responsibility and dedication early in life.

Petra attended Volks Schule in Stadtbergen, where she completed her early education. She further pursued a career in the textile trade at Berut Schule Textilien in Munchberg, Germany, where she honed skills that would shape much of her career.

In her early adulthood, Petra married Kevin Simonson and immigrated to the United States. They later divorced. This union was blessed with two children: Erik and Robert, whom Petra loved deeply. She was a dedicated mother, always providing for her family with unwavering devotion and pride.

Throughout her career, Petra worked in numerous manufacturing jobs, where her work ethic and commitment were admired by colleagues and supervisors alike. She took immense pride in her contributions and the quality of work she provided, embodying a sense of purpose in everything she did.

Petra’s devotion to her family was matched by her commitment to becoming a proud and active member of her new home. After years of hard work, she was granted U.S. citizenship, a moment she cherished dearly. Petra enjoyed spending time with friends and family, canning, gardening and antiques. Petra took great pride in her German heritage, but also had pride in being a U.S citizen.

Petra is survived by her sons: Erik Simonson of Mason City, Iowa and Robert Simonson of Charles City, Iowa; and a host of extended family and friends. She will be remembered for her strength, her perseverance, and the loving care she always gave to her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Irmgard; and sisters: Rosemarie and Inge.

May she rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire all who knew her.

Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, 1205 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa 50616 is in charge of local arrangements.  Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
