New Hampton Fire Considered Suspicious, Firefighters Injured

An early morning fire in New Hampton has been deemed “suspicious in nature.”
The New Hampton Fire Department (NHFD) responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of East Main Street shortly before 2 am Monday (10.06). According to a KWWL report, firefighters say they encountered heavy smoke and flames throughout the building.
While the residents escaped unharmed, two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the firefighting efforts.
New Hampton Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl has confirmed with KCHA/KCZE News that the blaze is considered suspicious, with the Iowa State Fire Marshal investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The NHPD and NHFD are assisting with that investigation.
Also responding to the scene Monday morning were the Ionia and Lawler fire departments, plus Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, Chickasaw County EMS, Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw County Dispatch, Chickasaw County Emergency Management, New Hampton Municipal Utilities, and Black Hills Energy.
