NHPD’s K9 Training Heads Down Home Stretch

Training for the new K9 unit for the New Hampton Police Department (NHPD) is headed down the homestretch.

Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl says he continues training school with K9 Oskar, with certification in narcotics detection scheduled for Wednesday (10.08) and Dog Testing for obedience, apprehension and tracking on Thursday (10.09). Oskar will graduate at the end of the month as a “dual purpose” K9.

Rosendahl says Oskar has shown an acute ability to know when he’s on duty and when he’s not.

Rosendahl has become the dog’s handler by default after former officer Darby Stone, who was going to fill that role, resigned from the NHPD and law enforcement altogether early this summer.

Rosendahl says recruitment efforts to fill the open officer position continue, with the hopes they’ll also find a permanent handler for Oskar.
