Vote No Group Against CCHS Bond Cite Taxes, Stretched Budgets

Those opposed to a $30 million bond referendum to pay for renovations and improvements to Charles City High School cite the increase in property taxes that would come with the measures’s passage.

Gordon Boge is with the Coalition for Better County Government.

Boge says voting the bond down isn’t just all about taxes.

He’s also heard similar concerns from Charles City residents on fixed incomes.

Boge says the school district can still get some work done if the bond fails.

Earlier this year, the School Board approved the issuance of $4 million in bonds to fund some HVAC and electrical improvements, plumbing in the Art Room, and bathrooms for ADA Compliance.

The original building has not had any major improvements since it was built over 65 years ago.
