Former Navy Commander Wins KCHA/KCZE “Salute to Service”

A former Navy commander is the winner in the KCHA/95.1 The Bull “Salute to Service.”

Chuck Souder of Rudd, a Commander in the US Navy active and reserves for 30 years from 1968 to 2007, will receive a Titan telescoping flagpole kit that includes a flag and installation.

He won a random drawing after being nominated for the promotion by his wife, Dianne, who says the American flag in their front yard is lit every night. She also notes that if any flag is being raised, Chuck will stop, take off his hat, put his hand on his heart and pause and reflect.

It’s an extension of Chuck’s respect and admiration for the United States military.

Souder was a ship driver and was stationed in Yokosuka Japan, and Norfolk Naval Base. He served during the Vietnam Conflict and saw action during his tour of duty. He also served two years as a Navy Recruiter out of the Federal Building in Des Moines.

Souder says he didn’t learn about the nomination by his wife until it was announced on-air on KCHA and 95.1 The Bull Veterans Day (11.11)  morning. He says he’s honored and humbled by winning.
