...SIGNIFICANT BLOWING SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING...

.Very strong winds will develop Tuesday evening with the
strong wind gusts persisting into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts over
50 mph are expected. Much of the area has 6 inches or more of snow
on the ground. While there may be an initial crust on the top layer
of the snow, it will erode quickly leading to significant blowing and
drifting of snow. Near white-out and blizzard conditions may occur.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Light snow and snow showers
are possible. Winds gusts over 50 mph are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest,
and west central Iowa.

* WHEN...From late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Whiteout conditions are
possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially nearly
impossible and life-threatening. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down
tree branches.

...PROLONGED SNOWFALL EXPECTED TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...

.A winter storm is expected to move west to east across the Midwest
tonight through Saturday night, bringing a prolonged period of light
to moderate snowfall. Areas along and south of Interstate 90 are
expected to receive at least 6 inches of snowfall with the highest
amounts favored in northeast Iowa and far southwest Wisconsin, where
8 to 12 inches of snow are expected. Heaviest snowfall rates are
expected Saturday afternoon over northeast Iowa and southwest
Wisconsin, approaching 1 inch per hour at times. Snowfall tapers off
west to east late Saturday night through Sunday morning. Winds will
increase Saturday evening and a period of blowing snow may occur
west of the Mississippi River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.
