SIM-IA Clinical Education Truck Comes to North Iowa This Week

North Iowa EMTs, paramedics, and EMS students can get hands-on, cutting-edge clinical education when the Simulation in Motion-Iowa (SIM-IA) mobile truck stops in Mason City this Wednesday (02.04) through Friday (02.06).

In partnership with Mason City Fire Department, SIM-IA is a statewide mobile education program delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical

training to EMS providers, hospital teams, businesses, and community members across the state. Each semi-sized mobile simulation truck emulates an emergency room bay and an ambulance setting, includes video recording for analysis and debriefing, and houses six advanced patient simulators capable of mimicking realistic human responses.

Randy Elsbernd, Mason City Fire Department Assistant Deputy Chief of Training, says, ”SIM-IA provides realistic, training-based scenarios that staff work through, re-in forcing current knowledge while building new concepts keeping up with current trends. The training is for new EMS providers as well as experienced providers.”

During the Mason City training, SIM-IA will debut a new simulation scenario requested by Elsbernd in response to the region’s expanding mountain biking opportunities. SIM-IA’s education team collaborated with cycling experts in the Mason City area to identify local injury patterns and develop new educational material designed to better prepare EMS crews for incidents involving injured cyclists.

Brett Bachtle, SIM-IA Marketing Coordinator, adds, “Every EMS agency in Iowa has unique training needs. SIM-IA offers tailored scenarios to ensure providers receive training that is meaningful and relevant to the communities they serve.”

WHEN: Training sessions begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately four hours for EMS providers, followed by student sessions beginning at 2 p.m. and lasting approximately two hours, each day

from Wednesday, Feb. 4 to Friday, Feb. 6.

WHERE: 350 5th St SW, Mason City, IA 50401
