Charles City Punches Multiple “Tickets” to Boys State Bowling Championships

Home cooking helped Charles City to a clean sweep at the Class 1A Boys State Qualifying Tournament Monday (02.16) at Comet Bowl.
In team play, the Comets rallied late to beat Harley-Melvin-Sanborn by 48 pins for the title (3215 to 3167). Charles City head coach Doug Bohlen said it was a great example of how every pin matters.
Charles City will head to the Class 1A State Team Bowling Tournament next Monday (02.23) at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
In the individual bowling competition Monday in Charles City, the Comets captured every individual qualifying spot, with Joey Robel leading all bowlers with a three-game series of 809. Roble said it was the first time he surpassed the 800 mark.
Charles City’s Noah White finished second (751), followed by Jayden Lopez in third (731) , and Cooper Holm in fourth (730), with all four Comets advancing to the Boys State Individual Tournament next Tuesday (02.24), also at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
New Hampton finished fourth as a team at Comet Bowl Monday, with the Chickasaw’s Connor Stumme their top individual finisher in 8th place.
