New Hampton School District FY27 Property Tax Rate Public Hearing Tuesday (03.24)

The property tax rate is set to go up in the New Hampton School District for the 2026-2027 fiscal year starting July 1st. By how much remains to be seen.
Superintendent Erik Smith said the tax increase will replenish the district’s cash reserves, which were depleted in fiscal year 2025 to cover additional expenses, especially in special education.
Smith adds that the cash reserve also helps cover costs in the absence of state per pupil funding at the end of each school year.
The New Hampton School Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed property tax rates for FY 27 at 6:30 pm Tuesday (03.24) night. In the publication to notify tax payers in the school district, the rate was projected to go from just under $11.94 to $13.23 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.
However, during last week’s regular School Board meeting, Smith provided an improved scenario that will result in a lower increase.
Smith also noted that improving the cash reserve fund helps their solvency ratio.
The public hearing for the FY27 proposed property tax rates will be held in the FCS room at New Hampton High School.
