Iowa Severe Weather Awareness Week 2026-Preparedness

The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) and the National Weather Service (NWS) have joined together to promote Severe Weather Awareness Week through this Friday (03.27).
Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Jason Webster says Wednesday’s (03.25) focus is on Preparedness.
In an effort to better track severe weather rolling into Floyd County, a new camera will be mounted on the communications tower near Rockford. Webster says, once operational, the camera will be a valuable tool to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, but the public will also be able to access the view.
Preparedness also serves as the overall theme for Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is ‘Are You Ready?’
One way Webster encourages being ready is to have multiple avenues to receive severe weather information, including Alert Iowa, which can be customized to your specific area.
Wednesday also featured the statewide Tornado Drill at 10 am.
