Summit Rep Gives Carbon Pipeline Update to Chickasaw County Supervisors

A rep for Summit Carbon Solutions gave an update to the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors last week (03.31) on possible changes in the company’s approach to its underground carbon capture pipeline.
One branch of Summit’s Phase 1/main line pipeline would begin at the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant near Lawler and go west through Chickasaw, Floyd and Cerro Gordo counties, on its way to western Iowa.
However, Summit Stakeholder Engagement Manager Kaylee Gibson told Supervisors their sequestration destination will likely not be North Dakota as originally planned.
Gibson said the change likely won’t have an impact in the Chickasaw County area.
Still, if there’s any alteration of the pipeline route Gibson said landowners would receive a $500 survey payment.
Gibson also noted a move away from the use of water to cool down its carbon capture facilities.
Meanwhile, landowners like Floyd County’s Kathy Carter, who are opposed to Summit’s pipeline and the use of eminent domain, continue to lobby against the project at the state legislature in Des Moines almost every Tuesday.
