Nashua-Plainfield, Tripoli Schools Looking for Next Shared Superintendent

Two more northeast Iowa school districts are in the market for a new superintendent.

In a social media posts on Friday (04.10), Nashua-Plainfield Superintendent Jay Marley, also the shared superintendent with the Tripoli School District since July 1, 2024, announced his resignation from both districts at the end of the current school year on June 30th.

Marley says he “verbally accepted my dream opportunity” by returning home to his wife’s roots as next superintendent of the Clayton Ridge School District, based in Guttenberg.

Marley says working for Nashua-Plainfield and Tripoli has “meant so much to me, not only helping me grow as a professional, but also as a person.” He adds that he remains fully committed to serving the school districts through June 30th.

The post also notes that leaders from both school districts have met jointly and there is a strong agreement on continuing the sharing partnership.

Marley’s departure is the latest turn in the region’s superintendent carousel.

Last week, Osage and Riceville schools announced the hiring of current Roland-Story Middle/High School Principal Andy McQuillen to replace outgoing shared Superintendent Barb Schwamman, who was Osage superintendent for 11 years and shared with Riceville the last nine years.

Late last month, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock (RRMR) announced that Secondary Principal Nick Johnson is set to also become the school district’s new Superintendent. Johnson will add superintendent duties on July 1st, taking over for Ken Kasper, who will depart to become the new superintendent for the Grinnell-Newburg School District.
