$64 Million in Federal Money for Iowa Bridges Includes Over $3 Million for Floyd, Chickasaw Counties.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley recently announced Iowa will receive over $64 million in federal aid from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to help replace 67 bridges and culverts in poor condition across Iowa, including almost 20 projects in north/northeast Iowa.

Floyd County Engineer Adam Miller says the County will receive funding as part of the Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHPB).

Last Friday (04.17) Chickasaw County Engineer Roman Lensing informed Supervisors they are also recipients of CHPB grants.

Lensing said he expects bid letting for the bridge projects next January, with initial construction about a year away.

Other counties receiving federal CHPB bridge grants include Mitchell, Bremer, Allamakee, Howard, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Hancock, Worth and Kossuth.

In addition to the CHPB grants, Miller notes that Floyd County was also recently approved for RAISE grants to address seven bridges.

Miller adds that one other major bridge project is about two years away.

As secondary road crews head into the busy road/bridge construction season, Miller encourages patience from motorists in advance of possible travel delays and detours.
