Northeast Iowa Law Enforcement Agencies in Hiring Mode

Several northeast Iowa law enforcement agencies are in the hiring mode. Unfortunately, for one department, it’s a recurring theme.

The New Hampton Police Department is looking to hire after Chief Conrad Rosendahl last week had to terminate Officer Cory Frank. Sidelined by an injury last July, Frank has been unable to return to full active duty.

Frank had back surgery in February and the expectation was he’d return to full police duties by May 1st. However, he told the City Council, during their May 4th meeting, he needed another six-to-eight weeks off, due to changes in his medical restrictions regarding what he can do.

Rosendahl said those restrictions, combined with no definite timeline for Frank to return to full duty, if at all, he had to let Frank go in order to advertise for his replacement. Still, Rosendahl says Frank is welcome to re-apply if and when he’s 100% medically cleared and a position is open.

NHPD began advertising for a full-time officer on Friday (05.08), with applications accepted until the position is filed.

Meanwhile, Rosendahl says they got one officer fully back as of Monday (05.11), now that officer Lucas Kleckner finished his training with K9 Ozkar last week.

Also in the market for a peace officer is the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office. They’re looking to hire a fulltime patrol deputy, with applications were due by 4 pm Monday. Sheriff Ryan Shawver says 11 applications were submitted.

The deputy sheriff position opened up with the pending resignation of Deputy/Jail Administrator Jordan Gansen, effective June 1st.

The Cresco Police Department is also looking to hire a full-time officer, with applications also accepted until the position is filled. CPD began advertising for the position in early April.

Other law enforcement-related hiring positions include a Floyd County is looking to hire a Communications Dispatcher.
