Breaking: Charles City Man Identified as Dead Body Discovered Wednesday (05.13) in Clear Lake

North Iowa authorities have identified the man who was found dead in Clear Lake earlier this week.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to McIntosh State Park after receiving a report of a body located offshore in Clear Lake, shortly after 4 pm Wednesday (05.13). Responders found a deceased man wearing fishing gear in the water just off shore.

The county medical examiner responded to the scene and is helping local law enforcement. There was no sign of foul play. 

The Sheriff’s Office says the deceased is 70-year-old John Rankin of Charles City. The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner.

The Clear Lake Police Department, Ventura Fire Department, Clear Lake Fire Department, Clear Lake DNR and the Iowa DNR are assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing..
