Food Pantries in Charles City, Nashua to Host Open Houses in Conjunction with World Hunger Day (05.28)

Thursday (05.28) is World Hunger Day.

That’s Laurie Kristiansen with the Nashua Food Pantry, who says food insecurity extends to neighboring counties as well. In fact, it’s a problem that’s everywhere.

The Nashua Food Pantry, which operates out of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua (300 Merrill Street), along with the Floyd County Food Pantry, now in the former Messiah Food Pantry location in downtown Charles City (102 North Main), will each host an Open House Thursday from 4 to 6 pm in conjunction with World Hunger Day.

The pantries are stocked with help from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, monetary donations, and local contributions of products including eggs and milk.  Both also take advantage of Food Rescue opportunities.

Kristiansen says the Nashua Pantry has partnered with Kwik Star, Casey’s and Dollar General in Nashua, while Jen Burton with the Floyd County Pantry says they’ve also worked with Kwik Stars and Hy-Vee in Charles City as well as Dollar General in Saint Ansgar.

Burton and Kristiansen encourage anyone facing food insecurity, or those who wish to donate and/or volunteer, to visit each pantry during their World Hunger Day Open House Thursday from 4 to 6 PM.
